Our next General Membership meeting will take place on November 17, 2015 at 7PM. We will be meeting at the corporate headquarters of Allied Physicians Group 3 Huntington Quadrangle, Suite 105S in Melville. I look forward to using the meeting space for many meetings to come. It is very centrally located between Nassau & Suffolk counties and is just south of the LIE on Route 110. We have a lot of business to discuss including:
Objectives:
1. Counsel breastfeeding mothers on the use of galactagogues.
2. Understand the scientific and cultural use of Domperidone.
3. Advise on the use of Metoclopramide and Metformin prescription galactagogues and herbal galactagogues.
The webinar is 1 LCerps and a PDF of the slides will be provided.
Dessert & coffee, tea will be served.

- Update on 501c3 status: The executive board have all signed off on the paperwork establishing LILCA as a non-profit corporation. Our lawyer, Marliese Flis will now be filing for 501c3 status from New York State.
- 2016 elections: The current board’s terms are up this year. You should have received an email for the Nominating Committee asking for your nominations for officers 2016-2018. The Nominating Committee will have the slate of officers ready for your review at the next meeting. We will of course take nominations from the floor. However, the slate as it stands is: President: Joy Padula, Vice President: Jeanne Rosser, Corresponding Secretary: Susan Silberger, Recording Secretary: Deb Bouchard and Treasurer: Jen Simon.

Dr. Laura Borgelt is an Associate Dean of Administration and Operations and Professor in the Departments of Clinical Pharmacy and Family Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK 2015
LETTER WRITING CONTEST
The Association of Lactation Providers of Nassau/Suffolk and The Long Island Lactation Consultant Association is sponsoring a letter writing contest for WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK. Our plan is to collect letters from nursing moms and assemble them into an album that can be read by expectant and new moms. We believe your words can help mothers make the healthy choice to breastfeed. Your encouragement can help them breastfeed longer. Your letters will be our community’s response to support breastfeeding on Long Island.
Your letter should be about 500 words or less. Write about your own breastfeeding experience. Some possible topics might include:
Why you chose to breastfeed
Why breastfeeding was special for you and your baby
Breastfeeding under special circumstances
Returning to work
Supportive work environment
How you overcame difficulties and breastfed successfully
How breastfeeding can fit into a family’s busy lifestyle
Please include your name, address, phone number, and the hospital where your baby was born, on a separate page. Letters will not be returned and may be used for breastfeeding promotion efforts on Long Island. Everyone who submits a letter will be invited to our World Breastfeeding Week Reception in August. Winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded at this special celebration to be held during

Our next General Membership meeting will take place on May 26, 2015 at 7PM. We will be meeting at the Winthrop Annex building on Old Country Road. We have a lot of business to discuss including: 1. 501c3 status: I have been working with and accountant and a lawyer on this. Apparently, we must pursue this as it is required by USLCA to retain chapter status. It is also a requirement for obtaining free meeting rooms and grants larger than $500. The biggest road block right now is there seems to be no documentation surrounding the founding of the association. If anyone has information pertaining to this please bring it to my attention 2. 2016 elections: The current board’s terms are up this year. We will need to establish a nominating committee. Please consider nominating yourself or another member for board positions. The board members will give a brief synopsis of their duties, so that you may consider if you are suited to the work. 3. The presentation for the evening is “The Development and Use of Care Plans in Post hospital Discharge Lactation Consults” and will be presented by Dr. Jennifer Shaer, Susan Silberger and Jeanne Rosser. Dr. Shaer will concentrate on how best to communicate and coordinate care with HCPs. She will also be addressing upcoming changes as related to lactation support in the HCP office. Currently, Care Plans are being sold by various organizations and we’d like to help you develop/standardize one for yourselves. The VFW Post is directly on the southbound side of Route 110 directly across from a Sunoco station. It is a yellow building set back from the road with parking lot right in front of the building.
2. We have been approached by Susan Brockmann, LM, MPH, a private practice midwife at NUMC. Susan is interested in offering IBCLC clinical hours for anyone looking to sit the IBLCE boards. If you are mentoring a student or know of anyone looking for hours, please let me know and I will give you Susan’s contact Information.
3. We now have a hard copy of The Milky Way movie. If you are interested in using the DVD at your facility or hosting a viewing, please let me know and we can make arrangements.
4. If you need to renew membership or would like to check on the status of your membership, email Treasurer Jen Simon at: [email protected]

Dr. Glassman will be presenting "Neurological and Spinal Development of an Infant and How Common Abnormalities Affect Breast Feeding". We will apply for CERPS. Dr. Glassman operates his chiropractic practice, Dream Wellness and Dreamnastics Gym for children in Great Neck. He has graciously invited us to host our meeting in his office at 24A Great Neck Rd, Great Neck NY. Dr. Glassman specializes in chiropractic and cranio-sacral therapy for infants & children.
- Our November meeting will take place on Nov. 18th, 2014 at 7PM, venue TBA. This bill is calling for the licensure by NYS for IBCLCs. We need support for this bill.
